Private lessons offer participants an individualized approach to skill-based instruction and progression at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Participants work one-on-one with an instructor to master the techniques necessary for a variety of whitewater kayaking disciplines including creeking, river running, and freestyle.

USNWC Swiftwater and Flood Rescue I: Technician

The first part of the Swiftwater and Flood Rescue curriculum, this course is designed for the rescue professionals looking to become a technician in swiftwater and flood rescues

Hazards and hydrology

Self-rescue techniques

Preparation and planning

Basic use of rescue equipment

Knots and basic anchor systems

Wading

Dealing with foot entrapment

Tensioned diagonals

Basic understanding and use of the rescue vest

USNWC Swiftwater and Flood Rescue II: Technician

The continuation of Swiftwater and Flood Rescue I, this course continues the curriculm to become a technician in swfitwater and flood rescue.

Course Content Includes:

Advanced shore-based rescue operations

Large scale urban flood operations

Search and recovery operations

Night operations

Boat based rope systems

Bridge rescue applications

Introduction to paddle boat operations

USNWC Night Operations Course

A course exposing students to low and no-light swiftwater and flood rescue scenarios.

Course Content Includes:

Safety concerns of night rescues

Formal ICS set up for night operations

Proper equipment needed for night time rescues

Scenarios using simple, commonly used swiftwater applications (ropes, live bait, swims)

Scenarios using complex rescue systems with rafts and rope systems

Swiftwater and Flood Rescue Awareness Level Course

A comprehensive presentation that provides essential knowledge for support staff faced with a swiftwater or flood event.

Recognizing the need for water search and rescue

Implementing the assessment phase

Identifying resources necessary to conduct water rescues

Pre-planning and mitigation

Hazards and hydrology
