Test your navigational, riding, running and paddling skills in the 4 or 8 hour adventure race. Competitors will navigate the Francis Marion area as well as the East Branch of the Cooper River using UTM coordinates to find check points scattered throughout the area. Compete solo or as a team of 2-4.

Race Description

Uncharted Adventure Race tests solo competitors, as well as teams of 2-4, to utilize their navigation and endurance skills during this 4 or 8 hour multi discipline adventure.
Racers will traverse 30-60 miles of various terrain, including gravel roads, trails, tidal rivers and creeks, paved roads and forested land to find a series of self-plotted UTM coordinate check points.
Racers are allowed to to travel by foot, bike, or kayak.
- All must be provided by participant
Racers will use a map provided by Event Management at the start of the race to plot the UTM coordinates, then seek to find the checkpoints.
There are no specific routes, strategy is key for the successful completion of the race.

Rules

There is no marked or set course. Teams must find as many checkpoints as possible in the least amount of time.
Each team will be given one map prior to the start of the race at check-in.
Teammates must always be in visual contact of each other.
Cell phones/GPS may not be used in any way, either as a communication device or as a navigation device.
No use of motorized transportation, including ebikes.
Teams that finish after the 4-hour or 8-hour window will be disqualified.

Scoring

Teams will be ranked on the total number of checkpoints collected.
Tiebreaker will go to the team that collected their number of checkpoints in the quickest amount of time.

Equipment

This equipment is to be provided by competitors and will not be provided by Whitewater unless otherwise indicated. Each competitor must have the following.
- Pack to carry gear
- Snacks/food for replenishment
- Hydration
- Closed toe shoes
- Compass
- UTM protractor (1:24,000 scale)
- Bicycle and helmet
- Kayak, Paddle, and PFD
- Headlamp (8-hour only)
- Bike lights (8-hour only)
- Cell phone (For Emergency Use)
- Pencil
- Permanent marker
