Double Down

Experience a free, double century group bike ride across the state of South Carolina this June. Double Down features over 200 miles of road and gravel cycling through the midlands and low country of South Carolina. Expect a 16-hour day as the group leaves from the Myers Park neighborhood of Charlotte and traverses both the Catawba and Santee River Basins before ending at Middleburg in Huger, SC.

Please note that this group ride is an extreme endurance event and is a drop ride. Participants are responsible for their well-being at all times and there will be no support or resources of any kind while on the ride.  The group will stop at various points for resupply and lunch along the route. There are several sections of sand/gravel and a minimum of 30c tires are recommended.

Lodging options are available at Middleburg and include a bed in one of the four houses, dinner on Saturday evening, breakfast on Sunday morning, and custom wool socks for $175 per person.

Additional Information

Critical Rider Information

Double Down is a group bicycle ride that subjects the participants to the inherent and considerable risks normally associated with a road biking event. The considerable length of the ride on the public and back country roads involves substantial risk to all participants that could result in significant injury and death. The nature of this ride means that riders will face substantial physical challenges. All riders must rely on their own capabilities to complete and endure this event and each rider is required to be self-sufficient during the entire event. There should be no support expected from the ride organizers.

All riders are reminded that they are responsible for their own safety at all times. Riders may experience natural elements and dangers, vehicles, weather, and all other elements that create dangerous conditions for riders. Riders are encouraged to review and research the route, and types of riding involved and understand the true nature of the ride in order to accept the significance of what they will experience. Riders are accepting that the very essence and nature of the ride involves these significant risks and these challenges form the basis for each rider’s desire and willingness to participate.
