Test your ice skating abilities in a short track ice skating race. Race categories will be broken into heats with the winners advancing through a tournament bracket to the finals.

All registrants will receive a Single Activity Pass for ice skating valid on January 21st.

Each category will be limited to 40 participants.

Participants may use their own equipment.

RACE DESCRIPTION: A Snowball’s Chance Short Track Skate Race tests your ice-skating abilities on the Whitewater Center’s ice trail.  Competitors will race in heats of up to 4 skaters in youth, recreational, and competitive divisions.

SCHEDULE

Saturday, January 21st

  • 8:30am – 10:30am – Packet pick-up at River Center.
  • 9:00am – Youth division begins
  • 10:00am – Recreational division begins
  • 10:00am- Competitive division begins

SCORING

  • Racers will compete in heats of up to 4 skaters
  • The winner of each heat will move on and compete in a bracket style tournament

AWARDS

  • Awards will be given out to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall winners in each division

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Competitors must arrive and check in at least 30 minutes before their scheduled heat
  • Only registered competitors will be allowed on the ice
  • The Whitewater Center will not sharpen personal skates

Rules

COMPETITION RULES

  • No pushing, shoving, tripping, or physically obstructing another competitor
  • No taunting or inappropriate language
  • All judge’s decisions are final
  • Violations to these rules will result in an immediate disqualification

 MANDATORY EQUIPMENT

The Whitewater Center reserves the right to stop any participant from competing if their equipment is deemed unsafe.

  • Helmet
    • Most hockey, bike, or other padded helmets that provide adequate protection are acceptable
    • Can be rented from the Whitewater Center
  • Gloves
    • Any type of padded gloves including hockey gloves, ski gloves, leather gloves, as well as others
  • Ice Skates
    • Hockey or figure skates
    • Short and Long Track Skates are NOT allowed
    • A skate rental is included in the race registration

Participants are encouraged to wear any additional safety equipment/padding they deem necessary.
